Getting into the World Cup spirit for Care Home Open Week
There has been a fantastic atmosphere for us, this month, as residents and team members have embraced the excitement of a football themed Care Home Open Week, bringing people together through fun activities, shared memories and plenty of friendly competition.
A national initiative coordinated by @Championing Social Care that celebrates the important role care homes play within their local communities, Care Home Open Week provides an opportunity to showcase the vibrant lifestyles enjoyed by residents.
With this year's celebrations centred around a World Cup theme, our residents enjoyed a variety of football-inspired activities throughout the week.
From designing their own football shirts and taking part in quizzes to enjoying games, music and bingo, there has been something for everyone to get involved in regardless of their sporting knowledge.
One of the highlights of the week was the many conversations sparked by the activities, with residents sharing their predictions on who they believe will lift the trophy while also reminiscing about some of football's most memorable moments. Team members enjoyed hearing stories from residents who remembered England's historic World Cup victory in 1966, creating opportunities for meaningful discussion and connection across generations.
For us, these activities are about far more than simply filling the calendar, they encourage social interaction, stimulate memories, promote wellbeing and help residents maintain connections with the interests and experiences that have shaped their lives. They also provide valuable opportunities for families to join in, creating shared experiences and lasting memories together.
Care Home Open Week has been a wonderful reminder of the strong community spirit that exists within our home, and by opening our doors and celebrating alongside residents, families and visitors, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to providing not only high quality care, but also a warm, engaging and fulfilling lifestyle for those who call it home.
